Catie Leonard
Catie Leonard (b.1997) is a photographer living and working in Richmond, Virginia. She earned her B.F.A in Fine Art Photography at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University in 2020. She is pursuing her M.F.A in Photography and Film at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Leonard combines fine art and documentary photography to explore themes of memory, place, and family dynamics. Her artistic practice delves into magical realism, using photography to challenge perceptions of truth and memory. She explores how lived experiences shape narratives by reimagining personal histories using familiar and mundane elements. Through visual storytelling, Leonard invites viewers to question the boundaries between reality and imagination, belief and truth.
In addition to her photographic practice, Leonard has experience working in museums and galleries in the DC Metro area. She also enjoys making photo books and zines and co-founded the imprint Jumbo Shrimp Press.
