Ashley VanGemeren is a multi-disciplinary artist working and living in Central Maryland. Her work spans a variety of mediums where painting, collage, and wearable art rotate interchangeably. With an emphasis on mixed media, she creates intuitive works incorporating conventional materials with found objects and imagery. The juxtaposition of abstract and objective elements produces an image that is visceral, complex, and deeply personal.
Throughout her practice, Ashley utilizes art-making as a means to process, reflect, and communicate her experiences with mental illness. Her abstract work offers a glimpse into the metaphysical space where energy flows, illustrating the impact it has on her physical experience as she navigates interpersonal relationships and daily life.
She earned her BFA in Fine Art from the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design/George Washington University in 2015. She’s been a Flatfile artist at Transformer Gallery since 2015 and is represented by Unruly Collective in Brooklyn, NY since 2017.
